Tappy tap tap taparoo

# Posted by Joel Dixon at 31/01/2009 13:44:44

We had a Commodore 64 as youngsters, and one of my many favourites was a very simple game called Tapper (which, as I've just found out, has a pretty extensive Wikipedia article). Basically, you are a bartender and you need to serve drinks to patrons and collect the empty mugs.

Tapper. If you collect a "tip" from a patron, the dancing girls entertain your demanding customers and make them forget about drinking for a short while

The other day we were passing the arcade game section outside of the local movie cinemas, and amongst the many and only slightly varied driving and shooting cabinets there was an "old school arcade" collection. Of course, one of the games was "Root Beer Tapper".

What fun it was reliving such a classic. While a little rusty, I pushed through and easily topped the high score table:

High Score
First of one is still first!

After reading the Wikipedia article, I learned that an XBOX Live Arcade version of this game is available. It's since been added to my download queue!

It seems to be a six-month cycle in which I re-discover Commodore 64 games, download emulators and ROMs, and then forget about playing them after a day or two.

Next one coming up in 3, 2, 1...

ha ha - yeah - I'm the same. It's weird, back in primary school I would generally play each new game we got over and over - hours a night. Now I can download 100's of classic C64 titles at once - and I rarely play any of them for longer than 5 minutes.

Kids these days have got it too good (etc)

Talking about 6-months cycle. It seems that this blog is only updated on a 6-month cycle.

On to the topic - and thinking a little philosophical. Can it really be considered the top score if is the only score?

Two posts in two days - and you complain about update frequency? Some people are just never satisfied (i.e. Mrs. Hitman).

And yes, even though I was the only one on the list - I still got the top score. Then again, I also got the lowest score - so I guess it evens out.
