Stop looking at me, swan!

# Posted by Joel Dixon at 31/10/2008 19:58:07

My last balloon animal, Necky, needed a friend. Enter Swanana:

Swanana
I admit, my hand is strategically placed here to ensure the swan's head is pointed down

I had a spare blue balloon - so I have the Swan a lake to play in. I think I'll have to start looking for patterns for making a penguin.

Trivial

# Posted by Joel Dixon at 26/10/2008 14:35:37

Last night I attended a trivia night for my old primary school. Our table won the night (which was fun - as I've never been part of a winning team before) and everyone seemed to have fun.

I often take a relaxed approach to these kinds of events. I will generally stay quiet and let other people answer most of the questions - only piping up if I'm sure about the answer. I don't know why - but during the "TV & Movies" round I changed my approach slightly.

The question was "Listen to this TV show's theme music. For one point each, list the TV show's name, and the original series for which this was a spin-off.". I think I was buoyed from getting a couple of answers right the previous round, so before the music had even started playing I stood up and said to the whole table "Mork & Mindy. And it was a spin-off from Happy Days." I didn't know why I would even try to guess without hearing the music, so I sat back down to a few odd looks.

The light 80's-style music starts to play and people are guessing various shows like Dallas etc. After about 20 seconds I start to think that the music may actually have been from Mork & Mindy, so I reiterated my guess. We ended up going with it - and sure enough, I was right (to much high-fiving).

For those that don't remember the show's opening - here's a YouTube. The bit of the music that they played starts at 0:47 into the clip. Enjoy.

Awesome Blossom!

# Posted by Joel Dixon at 23/10/2008 20:19:29

How did I not know about a Blooming Onion?

Blooming eck
Bloomin' Heck

It's basically a large onion, cut up, and deep-fried. Yumsy! Apparently the Outback Steakhouse, an Australian-themed restaurant, invented the dish. This is a little odd - as I'm pretty sure it's not an Australian dish.

Either way - I'm keeping an eye out for some onions in bloom!

I should be fine. I'm sure the 15km will only be around 850 meters, after the measuring errors etc :) link
